8 Easy Steps for Jump-Starting a Car

Being unable to start your car A dead battery can be a big hassle, but if you know how to jump start a car, it would not be as bad. Fortunately, AmRare Autos is on hand to assist. The procedure of jump-starting a car battery is simpler than you might think; here is a fast guide:

Bring the engines close

First, get the running car engine as close to yours as possible. It’s acceptable to park your automobile facing you or parallel to it, but ideally, the two engines should be no more than two feet apart. Off your engine.

Connect Positive to Positive

Start by connecting the positive (often red) clamps of the jumper cables to the positive terminals of your battery. These are often marked, but they can be hard to see. Be sure to look closely to ensure that you are connecting to the right portion of the battery.

Connect Negative to Negative

Attach the jumper cable’s negative (typically black) clamps to the live battery’s negative terminal. Attach the negative terminal to any bare metal surface or engine block in your car.

Safety First

Always connect the dead battery first when connecting the positive connections to the batteries out of an abundance of caution. You run the risk of creating a safety issue if you power the cables before they are attached to your battery. It is crucial to contact for professional assistance if you ever feel uncertain or insecure rather than putting your safety at danger.

Start the Donor Car

Start with the working vehicle.  Giving the engine some gas and letting it run for a few minutes will allow your battery to charge.

Start your Dead Car

While it is still attached, start your car. Give it another minute if it does not start immediately away before trying again.

Remove the Cables

Reverse the order in which the cables were clamped into the vehicles and carefully remove them. Disconnect your car’s negative cable first, then the other car’s negative cable, your car’s positive cable, and then the positive cable from the other car.

Remember that when you are driving, your battery charges. Consider taking the long route to your destination after starting your car to allow your battery the time it needs to recharge. This initial dead battery is an indication that you need a replacement even if your battery jumps and recharges. As soon as possible, take your car to a nearby repair.

Additional Options for Jump-Starting

There are two more options for getting your battery jumped if the conventional jump-starting method does not work for you:

Battery Jumper Packs

A battery jumper pack, which is a portable battery with wires that may jump-start your car, is an alternative to the conventional jump. As every device is manufactured differently, make sure to carefully follow the instructions that are included with this battery.

After a Jump, My Car Still Won't Start

If your car still won’t start, there might be a problem other than a dead battery. Have a closer look at the interaction between your starter, alternator, and battery.
